I haven't seen a lot of "state gold" coming back to Big Stone Gap either, Sup-rbeast.

By your standards, i.e. state championships are the only thing that matters., then Powell Valley hasn't done anything more in this decade than any other school in the region.

Yeah ...and ya keep your mouth shut in the process. If everyone wants to brag..PV has more gold in their trophy case than all of the CD put together.

LOL I think you're severely undermining the accomplishment of a district or region championship. Very few LPD or Region D teams go on to win state championships these days. It doesn't mean that winning your district or winning the Region is meaningless.

Well..you can see it your way and I'll see it mine...The way I look at it, the ultimate goal is a state championship..anything short of it is ok..but it is just a stepping stone...but there is no reason to run your mouth about anything if ya can't even win your last game...I'm just pointing out that with all the trash talk on here you'd think that there would be some gold to show for it.
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....

    Re: ALL REGION D BASKETBALL

As I said before, you play the game to do the best you can, whether its district, region, or state.

If I subscribed to the idea that the only thing that matters is a state championship, and everything else is failure, there wouldn't be much reason to even have teams or play games. By that theory, every team in this area has failed a lot more often than they have succeeded.

That is the nature of sports...Ultimate failure is the fate of every team but the champ...can you find solace in defeat?..yes..one way is to say "Well, at least we won region"..or "well, at least we won district".. And that is MORE THAN ENOUGH REASON to have teams...to strive to be the best..and to accomplish so you can then TALK about greatness...not talk it up with nothing to back it up with.

TripleThreat is right on this one guys. Adam can play some ball but Mark Dockery is clearly head and shoulders above everybody in the region. I look for Mark to quite possibly be making some big bucks playing this game one day!

    Re: ALL REGION D BASKETBALL

What would be the difference in saying you won a state championship in 1993 and 1974? They're both in the past.

There is no difference. But, if folks are gonna sit and brag about how good so and so was and how no one else can't touch him (or them) it would be nice to have evidence that no one did touch them...not that they got on the big stage and choked..

    Re: ALL REGION D BASKETBALL

Well, a lot of people would probably tell you that Calvin Talford and Stacy Ervin were two of the best, if not the best, basketball players to come out of Region D in recent memory.

Stacy set a record for career points that still hasn't been broken.

Neither won a state championship during their careers. Does that mean that their accomplishments don't mean anything since they didn't win a state championship?
